Introduced in 2014, Mitsubishi leveraged off it’s real world experience of the i-miev and launched the world’s first Plug In Hybrid SUV. The vehicle was an instant hit in many markets due to its ability to make relatively short journeys (less than 50km) under electric power alone. It was also keenly priced and in some markets matched the price of ICE equivalent vehicles due to government subsidies.
A full five-door, five-passenger SUV with genuine offroad capability in a PHEV package was unusual at the time and still is! The Outlander PHEV is capable of 50km in EV only mode driving it’s dual front and rear motors from its 10kwh battery pack.
